How KVIC is Empowering Farmers & Strengthening Maharashtra’s Economy Through Beekeeping?
Empowering 80 Farmers for Sustainable Livelihoods: Under the Honey Mission (GVY), 80 farmers from Tribal, BPL, and underprivileged communities have been trained and certified as professional beekeepers, equipping them with the skills to build a sustainable source of income.

Live Bee Colonies for Economic Growth: Each farmer has been provided with 10 Apis Mellifera bee colonies, enabling them to generate income through honey production and other high-value bee products such as beeswax, pollen, propolis, royal jelly, and venom, each contributing to industries like cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and food processing.

Farmer’s Income Estimation:
?  With 10 colonies, a farmer can produce approximately 300 kg of honey per year
    (30 kg per colony × 10 colonies)
?  At an average market price of ?300 per kg, this translates to an annual income of
?90,000 per farmer just from honey.
?  Additional earnings from beeswax, pollen, propolis, and royal jelly can further
increase their annual income by 20-30%, potentially reaching ?1.1 - 1.2 lakh per year.

Boosting Maharashtra’s Economy: With 800 bee colonies in operation, Maharashtra can expect an estimated 24 tons of honey production annually (800 colonies × 30 kg per colony). This contributes to an industry value of ?7.2 crore over the next 10 years, strengthening the state’s agricultural and rural economy.

Providing Adulteration-Free Bee Products: This KVIC initiative not only supports rural livelihoods but also strengthens the beekeeping industry by ensuring pure, unadulterated honey and bee products. With rising concerns over honey adulteration, this initiative promotes high-quality, natural honey and byproducts, directly benefiting health-conscious consumers and premium markets.

Expanding Beyond Honey: Additional bee products like beeswax, pollen, and propolis further enhance economic potential, supporting Maharashtra’s rural economy and boosting its GDP. The integration of beekeeping with agriculture also increases crop yields through pollination, strengthening sustainable farming practices across the state.

Aligning with National Vision: This initiative aligns with the vision of our Honourable Prime Minister, fostering rural self-reliance (Atma Nirbhar Bharat) and unlocking new opportunities in the beekeeping and agri-business sectors.
